The Nikunen Christmas

Tunnel and Tent Justin's Purse Santa Grandpa

We hosted The Nikunen Christmas at our house this year. There was of course a whole living room full of gifts even though my parents said they scaled back this year, (yeah right). Reagan received many nice gifts but one of Reagan's favorite gifts was The Backyardigans DVD from Cousin Phil. After opening that, she had to have it playing on Justin's computer right away!! It has been the gift that keeps on giving...we use it on the long car rides up north, we take it with to go out and eat, etc...etc...

One of Justin's favorites was the yearly purse from my mom--red in color this year. My mom has been known to label gifts incorrectly. Years ago, she had one labeled to send to her cousin Jean who is in her 80s, To: Justin, by mistake. Justin opened a purple purse with butterflies on it. I remember no one was really paying attention at the time and Justin nudged me as said, "What the heck is up with this, I just got a purple purse from your mom???" He just sweetly smiled at his mother-in-law and said, "Thank you Kathy for the purse!!" Since then, my mom has given him a different purse each year. I am sure Justin has the perfect outfit to wear with it!! It was fun this year to see Reagan opening gifts at Christmas, however, we didn't forget the true meaning of Christmas of Our Savior's Birth...Reagan found one of my old books from when I was little about the Christmas story. She wanted to read it over and over about "Baby Jesus" and flip open the little flap of him wrapped in swaddling clothes, laying in a manger. Thank you Reagan for reminding us what the real meaning of Christmas is. In the hurry of the Christmas season it is good that we have that reminder, and how neat it is that a 1 1/2 year old allows us to see that (as we read that book over and over and over). :)
